A cloud-connected IoT system for optimizing shared maker spaces

Smart Maker Space is an IoT-based system designed to improve workspace efficiency in Aarhus University's creative lab environment. By integrating real-time sensors, cloud computing, and a 3D web interface, the system monitors the availability and status of 3D printers, laser cutters, and workspace occupancy. Using MQTT communication, a Firestore database, and ThreeJS for visualization, users can see live updates on machine usage and workspace availability through an intuitive interface. The project enhances lab accessibility, reduces downtime, and streamlines maintenance for both students and lab staff, making high-demand equipment more efficiently managed.
